The Department of Anthropology, National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution
is seeking a half-time program assistant to the Breath of Life Institute (BoL) of the Recovering
Voices Program. Recovering Voices is an interdisciplinary Smithsonian program that is working
with communities to document and sustain endangered languages and knowledge, and the Breath
of Life Institute helps Native Americans involved in language revitalization find and make use of
materials on their languages that are in the National Anthropological Archives and Library of
Congress.
The Recovering Voices program assistant, based at the National Museum of Natural History in
Washington, DC, will be responsible for coordinating program logistics and performing a variety
of administrative and collections-related tasks. The planning and implementation of BoL events
and assignments, such as arranging lodging, local transportation, catering, lectures, discussions
and tours are of primary importance. The program assistant will work closely with the
Recovering Voices Program Manager and BoL co-directors.
The ideal candidate will have strong organizational and computer skills, and a background in
anthropology, linguistics, human geography or related fields. Ability to work independently and
follow through on all tasks is essential.
This position is a half-time, non-federal, one-year term, trust-funded position with benefits. In
