Uncovering Hidden Arts Collections: Optimizing Outreach Opportunities

Outreach related to hidden arts collections within libraries, archives, and museums can provide valuable opportunities for institutional collaboration and collection visibility.  As Smithsonian Institution Library Professional Development Interns, we successfully worked together to highlight the underutilized collection of artists’ books within three museum libraries. We will share our experiences, the responses we received, and strategies for others to complete similar projects with their hidden arts collections.

Why Open Access Matters for the Arts

Open access is an important movement that is countering the soaring price of journals especially in the sciences. But with reactively low subscription costs, what can the open access movement have to offer arts scholarship?  This presentation will look at the benefits open access could bring to the arts; it has the potential to expand the global reach and public visibility of the arts as well as foster the free exchange of ideas.
