Job Description:  Responsible for managing the Advanced Process Control &amp; 
optimization group in Global Hydrogen Business Unit. This position will 
directly manage a group of 6 – 8 APC engineers and will report to the 
Director of Process Automation within Global Hydrogen. 

The position will have three primary areas of responsibilities as follows:

• Lead and Manage implementation of new MPC and RTO projects for Hydrogen/ 
Carbon Monoxide (HyCO) plants
• Manage the support of the MPC and RTOs in existing Praxair plants 
• Technical direction to the Global Hydrogen Operations Center (GHOC): 
GHOC purpose is to monitor the efficiency of all Hyco plants worldwide 
using KPIs and identify productivity and cost saving opportunities. It 
acts as a technical support center for Hyco plants and instrumental in 
rolling out new initiatives in close coordination with R&D.
• Manage and maintain the operator training simulators and the process 
models

The job requires applying chemical engineering, system optimization, 
statistical and control principles in designing and implementing advanced 
process control and optimization applications. Specifically, this will 
entail conceptualizing, defining, designing, simulating, commissioning and 
supporting technical control aspects of HyCO plant operations. 
Candidate will pro-actively provide the direction and guidance to monitor 
different HyCO plants to identify operational gaps and opportunities for 
efficiency improvement. Areas of involvement will include process modeling 
and dynamic analysis, state-of-the-art model predictive control, plant-
wide control, real time optimization and performance monitoring of plant 
production efficiency.

This challenging position requires excellent communication skills to 
maintain and develop relations with peer groups within Praxair such as 
R&D, Operations, Engineering, Business development etc. This position will 
be responsible for project design decisions and delivering results to meet 
and exceed performance, schedule and budget constraints. Candidate must 
have excellent people management skills to motivate the direct reports and 
keep good control of the work progress and goals.

Requirements and Qualifications: BS, MS or PhD in Chemical Engineering 
with 15+ years of experience in advanced process control and optimization 
and:    
 
&#61607; Leads and directs project execution and commissioning activities for 
APC&O implementation at HyCO plants. Must have prior hands on experience 
on implementing AspenTech DMC+ multivariable controller.  Experience with 
mathematical modeling and optimization software such as RTOpt, AMS 
Optimizer Suite, CPLEX, GAMS is also preferred.
&#61607; Ability to manage and direct a group of highly qualified people to 
accomplish the goals. Organizes plans and prioritizes group workload.
&#61607; Provides support for new projects and proposals beginning with cost 
justification thru implementation.
&#61607; Maintains APC&O system and operator Training Simulator (OTS) system 
ownership for all projects and plants.
&#61607; Establishes and maintains technical standards, guidelines and work 
processes.
&#61607; Responsible for recruiting, training, salary management, performance 
management and career development of direct reports and team members.
&#61607; Involved in the planning, identification, and development of cost saving 
projects/ programs, productivity ideas to support long-range business 
plans.
&#61607; Plant operating or new plant start-up experience - i.e. functional 
process knowledge
&#61607; Familiarity with plant instrumentation and control systems, primary 
control loop tuning, safety and work procedures in a plant environment and 
&#61607;Strong skills in plant data analysis using statistical methods
&#61607; Knowledge of steady-state and dynamic process analysis using off-line 
process simulation tools and computer control optimization techniques
&#61607; Experience using various programming languages, e.g. FORTRAN, Visual 
Basic, C, C++
&#61607; Ability to work on multiple projects while managing the department 
administrative functions and mentoring junior engineers.  
 
Requires approximately 25% domestic and international travel
