Research Associate
Imperial College London -Department of Chemical Engineering

A Research Associate position is available to carry out research in the area 
of deterministic global optimisation, developing novel theory and 
algorithms. The objective of the project is to develop reliable and high-
performance algorithms to solve problems of relevance to chemical 
engineering practice. This will involve collaboration with academic and 
industrial partners. The post is funded by the UK Engineering and Physical 
Sciences Research Council. The successful candidate will join a team of 
postdoctoral researchers and PhD students working in related areas and will 
work closely with Professor Claire Adjiman.

The successful candidate will have expertise and experience in at least one 
of the following: nonconvex optimisation, mixed integer optimization, 
bilevel optimisation. Experience in a programming language is essential. 
Applicants should also be able to demonstrate excellent written and oral 
communication skills and the ability to exercise initiative and judgement in 
carrying out research tasks.

You should have a PhD (or equivalent) in chemical engineering, mathematics, 
computing or another relevant topic. The post is available for 24 months, 
with possibility of extension, starting on or after 1 December 2013. Salary 
range: £32,750 - £41,540 per annum.
