Subject: Undergrad Research Assistant - Plant Ecology
Description:
I am looking for an undergraduate to assist with my plant population ecology
research to study the effects of common milkweed density on plant population
dynamics and the impact of plant-insect interactions. The assistant will
learn about plant ecology, plant-insect interactions and greenhouse and field
methods. I need assistance in the field measuring and mapping plants and
making insect herbivore and pollinator observations. At the greenhouse, we
will measure plants and manipulate caterpillars within cages on the plants.
There may be some days in the lab doing data entry.
The assistant must be motivated, detail-oriented, able to work independently
and tolerate long periods of standing or crouching in the sun. Students who
are interested in ecology or field research as part of their career are
especially encouraged to apply, and students with previous greenhouse and/or
field experience are strongly preferred.
Work will be conducted at local parks and the UMD greenhouse on Mondays,
Wednesdays and Fridays, between 8:00-5:00, with lunch at our worksite. A
modest stipend will be provided (although some small parking fees on the UMD
campus may be incurred). Transportation to local parks and housing will not
be provided.
If you are interested getting research experience, this is a great
opportunity to work in the field and greenhouse and be part of a
multi-faceted experiment.
