Subject: 2014 Neuroscience & Addictions Conference--register and attend for
free lunch!

Description:
The UMD NIH/NIDA-Funded T32 Pre-doctoral Training Program at the Intersection
of Neuroscience and Addictions Treatment Development (see the bottom of this
email for details) is hosting its annual, FREE Summer Conference Friday,
August 8th, 9:00am-3:00pm. Presentations will focus on current directions in
research in Neuroscience, with an emphasis on basic science findings and
their application to addiction.

Invited speakers from UMD include Alexander Shackman, PhD (Department of
Psychology), Jens Herberholz, PhD (Department of Psychology), and Ed Bernat,
PhD (Department of Psychology). Our distinguished external speakers include
Emma Rose, PhD (University of Maryland School of Medicine, Department of
Psychiatry) and Hedy Kober, PhD (Yale School of Medicine, Department of
Psychiatry).

The T32 also will sponsor a pre-conference event On Thursday, July 31st, at
2:00 PM, F. Scott Hall, PhD (UMD Department of Psychology/National Institute
on Drug Abuse, Molecular Neurobiology Branch) will present "The Dopamine
Transporter Knockout Mouse as an Animal Model of Attention Deficit
Hyperactivity Disorder".

The public, and all students, faculty, and staff are welcome to attend.

The first 50 undergraduates to register by 5:00 PM, August 4th will receive
free lunch!

T32 Program Description
Pre-doctoral training program at the intersection of basic process research
and clinical intervention for substance use. The program offers a wide range
of interdisciplinary research and applied experiences at the University Of
Maryland, College Park as well as with affiliated faculty at institutions in
the greater Washington DC area (e.g., NIH, University of Maryland Medical
School, Johns Hopkins University). In the context of a translational research
project, trainees will receive joint supervision from one mentor affiliated
with the cross-disciplinary Neuroscience and Cognitive Sciences (NACS)
Program and the other mentor affiliated with the Center for Addictions,
Personality, and Emotion Research (CAPER). Professional development will be a
core feature of the program, including participation in an interactive
speaker series, training in ethical conduct across both research and applied
domains, access to research and clinical opportunities with underserved
populations, and development of grant writing skills.
