Subject: How to Win Games With Math

Description:
You can use math to win competitive games! In this short,
entertaining talk, you will learn how to become a master
of the game of Nim.
Imagine that there are 100 stones on a table.
Two players alternate removing 1,2, or 3 stones from the
table and the first player who can't move loses.
Which player has the winning strategy?
What about other starting conditions?
What about other choices of how many stones to remove?
Dr. Bill Gasarch of the UMD Computer Science Department
will explore these questions and more!
