Description:
FACULTY RESEARCH ASSISTANT, University of Maryland-CP (CBMG & IPST), to join
the growing Dwyer Lab and support our scientific research objectives by
performing bench level experiments and small independent research projects.
We use synthetic and systems biology approaches to address questions related
to pathogen antibiotic susceptibility and resistance. Experimental
responsibilities include molecular cloning of RNA-based synthetic gene
circuits and performance of fluorescence-based cell biology assays to monitor
biomarker dynamics in response to antibiotic challenge. Position will
support general laboratory activities (i.e., bacterial growth media
preparation, supply inventory), and will participate in personnel training
and data analysis. Position available immediately. Salary commensurate with
experience.
REQUIRED: B.A./B.S. in biological sciences, bioengineering or relevant
scientific field; minimum one year laboratory experience; proficiency in
standard molecular biology and microbiology (i.e., aseptic bacterial culture,
transformation) techniques; possess strong interpersonal and organizational
skills; ability to work independently and as a with staff and students;
comfort working in a growing laboratory. Some night and weekend work is
required.
PREFERENCES: M.S. in biological sciences, bioengineering or relevant
scientific field; proficiency in current molecular cloning techniques;
previous experience with fluorescent microplate assays, flow cytometry and/or
microscopy; experience publishing; ability to follow complex instructions and
multitask efficiently without constant supervision.
