Subject: program at DC Public Library: GPO Superintendent of Documents to speak
I'm a UMD iSchool alumni and a librarian at DC Public Library. I wanted to let the iSchool students know about a program that may be of interest to them and was hoping you'd pass it along:
Title: Government Publishing Office: Keeping America Informed Date and Time: Wednesday, March 25 at 7:00 p.m.
Place: Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Library, 901 G. St. NW DC 20001
Superintendent of Documents Mary Alice Baish will discuss the ways in which the U.S. Government Publishing Office and the Federal Depository Library Program support Federal Government transparency by keeping America informed.
The presentation will include a demonstration of GPO's discovery and access tools that aid the public in finding the government information they need.
As the current Superintendent of Documents at the Government Publishing Office, Mary Alice Baish leads the agency in providing public access to Government information published by the U.S. Congress, Federal agencies and the Federal courts. She became the Superintendent of Documents in 2011. In July 2012 Mary Alice was honored as one of the Fastcase 50 Award Winners for her contribution to creating a more transparent U.S. Government.
Baish is among the founding members of OpenTheGovernment.org (OTG.org), an organization created to promote democracy and end Government secrecy. She has worked with OTG.org, the White House and Office of Management and Budget in implementing President Obama's Open Government Directive and with auditing agency Open Government Plans.
Thanks a lot for spreading the word; we are excited to host Ms. Baish for this event.
