Two postdoctoral positions in systems/synthetic biology are available at the Yoon Lab (Systems 
Biology) in the Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Massachusetts Lowell (MA, USA). 
The research group is a core part of the Massachusetts BioManufacturing Center 
( and Biomanufacturing Consortium ( Currently we are 
looking for experienced and highly motivated post-doctoral fellows to support biomanufacturing 
research projects and NIST/AMTech BSTC (Biomanufacturing Science and Technology Consortium) 
roadmap project. The appointments are funded through NIST and pharmaceutical companies. The 
research project aims at developing multi-omics analytics for biotherapeutic development and 
manufacturing with phenotype characterization of mammalian CHO cells. The roadmap project is to 
develop pre-competitive projects for biomanufacturing industry. The initial position is for one year, 
with the second and third year of employment dependent upon performance in the previous year. 
The position is available immediately, but starting date can be changed to accommodate the best-
suited candidate. 

Work for this position will largely involve developing and analyzing large multi-omics (gene 
expression, cDNA sequence, protein, metabolites, glycosylation, trace element profiling) datasets of 
media and cell-culture samples. The candidate will ideally have experience using bioinformatics 
(chemometrics) tools to manipulate large sequence datasets and/or hands-on experience with CHO 
cells. In addition, the candidate will also have the opportunity to get involved in several other on-
going projects in the research group. Major responsibilities for the research position include 
experimentation, data collection, analysis, modeling and writing of manuscripts. Progress in these 
areas will determine continuation of the appointment. The position will also involve some student 
mentoring, organization of laboratory activities related to the project, and weekly meetings with the 
PI and project collaborators. 

NIST/AMTech project management position requires some project management skills. The PhD 
degree requirement for this position will be waived with comparable skillsets.

	Experience with analyzing Illumina or other next-generation sequence data 
	Experience with cell-culture, media development, analytical technology
