The Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Rice University invites
applications for postdoctoral research fellowships in the area of chemical reaction engineering.
The successful candidates should hold a Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering (or closely
related discipline) and have a strong background in modeling the transient operation of chemical
reactors, using numerical methods to solve the resulting PDE/DAE systems and estimating
reactor parameters from experimental data. Our interdisciplinary team is currently working on
problems that include removal of fuel impurities using adsorption/catalytic beds, dynamic
modeling of the nitrogen cycle and nutrient transport in biochar-amended soils, and thermal
remediation of contaminated soils. Candidates should be proficient in programming with
MATLAB. Familiarity with a low-level programming language (such as Fortran or C) is also
required. Prior experience with COMSOL and/or parallel computing will be a plus.
The positions will initially be for one year with possible extensions. Salary will be commensurate
with qualifications of the candidate. Review of candidate applications will begin immediately.
Applications including a CV, one-page research statement, and names and contact information
of three references should be emailed to Prof. Kyriacos Zygourakis ([log in to unmask]).
