Description:
Students are welcome to participate in the Models of Infectious Disease Agent
Study (MIDAS) annual meeting if this program is of interest to you. Please
find the registration for in-person attendance here:
https://www.regonline.com/builder/site/Default.aspx?EventID=1816810 , there
is no fee to register.
The NIGMS supports the Models of Infectious Disease Agent Study (MIDAS)
program which is a collaboration of research groups to develop computational
models of the interactions between infectious agents and their hosts, disease
spread, prediction systems and response strategies. Towards this program, we
usually organize a MIDAS annual meeting, and the 2016 MIDAS Annual Network
Meeting is scheduled on Monday and Tuesday, May 23rd and 24th, 2016 at the
Hyatt Regency, 1800 Presidents street, Reston, VA.
This annual meeting provides an opportunity for the researchers, public
health officials, and policy makers to interact one another. Usually,
investigators highlight their scientific progress and interesting findings at
their sites via the break-out sessions of short talks, along with the poster
presentations and outreach activity. For the outreach activity, we usually
invite under-represented students, ranging from high school to graduate
studies. This provides an excellent opportunity for the students to get
exposure with various programs and to meet with relevant investigators.
Needless to say, the outreach activity program is highly regarded.
Though this meeting sounds like disease focused, most of the presentations
are loaded with solving the public health problems, particularly,
manipulating the data. Please take a look at our current MIDAS programs:
