Subject: Register for HopHacks!
Description:
HopHacks, the biannual 36-hour hackathon at Johns Hopkins University, will
take place from Friday, 17 February to Sunday, 19 February 2017. For 36
hours, students work in teams of up to four people to bring a software or
hardware idea to life. Teams that submit hacks are eligible to win prizes of
over $1000, as well as many sponsored prizes. Students coming from
Georgetown, UMDCP, and UMDBC will be on the Maryland/DC bus.
HopHacks is committed to its mission: to provide a collaborative environment
where students can learn by creating something they’ve always dreamed about
creating. In past events, sponsors have conducted educational workshops
detailing git version control, web development using node.js, and sponsor
APIs/developer platforms.
During the three day event, sponsors bring mentors and developer evangelists
to assist participants with any coding-related problems. The event also
offers activities as a coding break for participants. In the past, HopHacks
and Major League Hacking (MLH) have worked together to bring Cup Stacking,
Slideshare Karaoke, and Super Smash Tournaments to the event.
In addition, HopHacks offers catered food and snacks for hackers and mentors
throughout the weekend. Participants often look forward to “Midnight
Pizza” as a well-deserved reward for their work.
The deadline to submit a project is at 9:00 AM on Sunday, and judging begins
promptly after. Teams are arranged to present to judges in a science fair
style. Participants have the opportunity to demo their own work, as well as
watch pitches from other teams. The judging process culminates as judges
select the top 10 teams, and these finalists pitch to all participants during
the closing ceremony to compete for the Grand Prize, Runner-up, and Third
Place.
Any college student is welcome to register (for free) at
https://hophacks.com. Upon checking in at our event, all participants receive
a reusable HopHacks water bottle and event t-shirt!
