The Robert Frederick Smith School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering
at Cornell University seeks applications for the position of Lecturer in
Industrial Process and Product Design. Requirements for the position include
a B.S. in chemical engineering or the equivalent and a minimum of 5 years of
industrial experience, preferably not limited solely to activities in
research and development. We particularly encourage individuals with
experience in bioprocess engineering and related fields. Appointment at the
level of Senior Lecturer will be considered for candidates with exceptional

A successful applicant will be expected to lead a senior level capstone
course in process and product design while working with other members of the
faculty and with graduate teaching assistants. Duties in this capstone
course include lecturing on core course concepts, including engineering
economics, developing and managing design projects, and interacting with
student teams, other faculty and TAs in weekly meetings. We also encourage
the successful applicant to develop elective courses, based on the
applicant’s own industrial experience, for upper-level undergraduate and
Master of Engineering students. The applicant should be skilled in
leadership, management, and written and oral communication and should strive
to have a lasting pedagogical impact on our students.

Lecturers and Senior Lecturers in the College of Engineering at Cornell
University are expected to (i) excel in classroom teaching; (ii) contribute
to the development of courses, both syllabi and teaching materials; and
(iii) participate in advising of students as well as their academic and
honorary societies. Additionally Senior Lecturers are expected to (iv) make
substantial contributions to course design, syllabi, organization and
lasting teaching materials; (v) provide leadership in supervising and
training teaching assistants and new Lecturers; and (vi) provide educational
contributions and leadership in areas of importance to the department,
college and, where appropriate, to the university and nation. We anticipate
that Senior Lecturers that establish a proven track record of success will
