Subject: Full-time Research Specialist position at NIH

Description:
The University of Florida and the US National Institutes of Health are
collaborating on an ongoing project to investigate the antigenic and genetic
relationship of dengue viruses that have circulated over the last 25 years in
Thailand. We are seeking a research specialist to continue work in the NIH
Laboratory of Infectious Diseases to characterize the immune response to
dengue infection using plaque reduction neutralization assays and other
immunoassays.
Essential duties include:
- Perform and analyze assays accurately according to the Standard Operating
Procedures,
including, but not limited to: plaque reduction micro-neutralization, flow
cytometry,
neutralizing antibody, HAI Assays, ELISA, and PCR.
- Apply Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) principles to characterize test
articles and
analysis of specimens
- Maintain detailed records of assays. Enter and verify study specific data.
- Maintain cell cultures (e.g., Vero, C6/36 mosquito cells), viral
culture/titers (including
immunostaining).
Other duties are to:
- Learn and assist in the development of new assays.
- Receive, log, ship, and store specimens.
- Arrange transfer and shipment of specimens per DOT/IATA specifications.
- Maintain site shipping and storage logs of all specimens, including use of
specified
electronic system.
- Maintain and organize specimen repository.
- Provide professional expertise in the creation and revision of Laboratory
Standard
Operating Procedures (SOPs) and protocols.
- Monitor inventory of laboratory supplies, liquid nitrogen, and dry ice, and
request
orders as needed
- Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
Most work will be accomplished during normal lab hours, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.
The position requires the ability to flex schedule at the supervisor’s
request to work some evenings or weekends as required by study needs.
