Postdoctoral Researcher / Research Assistant Position at McMaster University

A position at either the Postdoctoral Researcher or Research Assistant IV level is available in the Department of Chemical Engineering at McMaster University beginning January 1, 2019, under the supervision of Professor Thomas A. Adams II. The position is for a period of one year (Jan 1 to Dec 31, 2019), but can potentially be extended depending on satisfactory performance and available funding.

The position requires skills both in process systems engineering and technical communications, which are of equal importance. The responsibilities of the position include performing academic research that will lead to publications in major journals; training and mentorship of graduate students; drafting, editing, reviewing, or critiquing manuscripts for both technical content and quality of writing; giving presentations at conferences and workshops; collaborating with industrial partners; assisting with funding proposals; laboratory and research program management; and related administrative responsibilities. Because of the supervisory nature of the position, there is the potential for co-authorship on many papers. A PhD degree in chemical engineering or other related field is required.

The position requires a strong technical background in process systems engineering, either theoretical or experimental. Theoretical areas of interest include process design; process modeling and simulations; energy systems; techno-economic and life cycle analyses; distillation process intensification; machine learning; and reinforcement learning. Candidates with laboratory experimentation skills such as the design, construction, and operation of experiments in areas of application such as solid oxide fuel cells, gasification, distillation, energy systems, or other major chemical process unit operations are especially encouraged to apply.

Interested persons should send a CV and cover letter to Prof. Adams at [log in to unmask] as soon as possible. In your cover letter, please include a one paragraph statement describing what kind of research you would do if allowed to research anything you wanted.
