Subject: Lab Programmer Position
Description:
Essentially, Dr. Newman's Lab has created a software program that was
designed to run a variety of experimental language studies with infants and
toddlers. They are making it broadly available to other labs, and as they do
so. There are some bug reports and some requests for enhancements. The lab
is looking for someone who could learn the existing code (a 3000-line
C++program) and make modifications (as compared to creating something from
scratch). in particular, they need someone with enough drive to be willing
to jump into the code, seek and read relevant documentation, and understand
the MS Windows software resources in play.
The program is designed to be able to run a wide variety of experimental
designs, using protocol files that provide the details for the specific
experiment. The program displays AV files and images on multiple monitors,
plays synchronized audio, and controls lighting peripherals. It involves
fairly precise timing aspects, collects keyboard responses from the user, and
then uses that to change its behavior during the course of a study. It runs
on Windows 8.1 and Windows 10, and uses threads for real-time I/O.
If this might be a position you would be interested in, please let Dr.
Rochelle Newman know, to set up a time to talk further.
