Dear colleagues,
Shiwen and I are organizing a workshop on “Data Science Education in Engineering” for the next year’s ASEE-SE conference which will be held March 8th-10th 2020 at Auburn University. We would like to invite you and any college you know to contribute to this workshop. Here is the link to the conference: http://www.eng.auburn.edu/sites/asee/
Description of the workshop: It has been recognized that jobs across different domains is becoming more data driven, and many aspects of the economy, society, and daily life depend more and more on data. Undergraduate education offers a critical link in providing more data science and engineering (DSE) exposure to students and expanding the supply of DSE talent. The National Academies have identified that effective DSE education requires both appropriate classwork and hands-on experience with real data and real applications. Currently significant progress has been made in classwork, while progress in hands-on research experience seems to be lacking.
In this workshop, we intend to bring together educators in the DSE field to capture the recent progress made in the area of innovative models of DSE education in engineering, with an emphasis on “hands-on experience with real data and real applications”. Some example topics include but are not limited to DSE education through: live or real project; problem-based learning; learning by creating; course-based undergraduate research experience (CURE).
Please let us know if you would accept our invitation. You have the option to submit a Full-length paper (6 pages, excluding references and bios) or Work in Progress paper (3 pages, excluding references and bios), which will be published in the conference proceedings. The Draft manuscript is due Friday, November 8th, 2019. You can also opt to not submit a paper, in that case, please send us the title, list of authors and the abstract of your paper by Friday November 29th.
Thank you for your consideration and we look forward to hearing from you.
