Subject: UAEM at UMD Presents: Access to Medicines Workshop

Description:
Interested in health equity and social justice?
Please join the UMD chapter of Universities Allied for Essential Medicines
for our Access to Medicines Workshop. 10 million people die every year in
developing countries because they can’t afford existing medicines, many of
which are developed right here on university campuses, while major
pharmaceutical companies make billions in profits. This workshop aims to
educate UAEM members and other UMD students on how pharmaceutical companies
take advantage of our current system, how health research favors the whiter
or wealthier populations, and steps we can take as student activists to
combat the access to medicines crisis and improve global health. We will also
have an expert in the field joining us: Peter Maybarduk, the director for the
Public Citizen’s Global Access to Medicines Program.

We hope to see you there!
