Subject: Paid Gap Year Opportunity For Recent Graduates
Description:
Join a cutting-edge research team investigating airborne transmission and
prevention of SARS-CoV-2 and influenza virus infections. We are looking for
multiple new team members for clinical/public health, engineering, aerosol,
communications/marketing, and data analytical roles.
The Public Health Aerobiology, Virology and Exhaled Biomarker Laboratory
(PHAB Lab) at the University of Maryland College Park School of Public Health
seeks inquisitive, well-organized, detail-oriented, and energetic people to
join a multidisciplinary research team of clinicians, epidemiologists,
engineers, aerosol, and data scientists. We are studying the role of
inhalation exposure in the transmission of respiratory viral infections in
randomized controlled trials and the efficacy of ventilation, filtration, and
germicidal UV to prevent transmission in real-world applications. Our
research is funded by the NIH, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, The Flu
Lab, and Balvi Foundation.
Depending on background and experience, duties will include recruiting
participants, collecting clinical samples from participants, operating
complex sampling equipment for collection of ambient and exhaled breath
aerosols, assisting with instrument development and testing, mapping
germicidal UV irradiance, assisting with computational modeling, viral
analysis including dPCR, culture, and sequencing. Extensive training will be
provided.
We are looking for research assistants who can commit to working full time
and graduate assistants with appropriate background and skills. Recent
graduates looking to gain research experience before matriculation into
medical or graduate school are encouraged to apply.
