Virginia Emergency Medicine Associates (VEMA) is recruiting applicants for
our scribe program at the INOVA Fair Oaks Hospital Emergency Department in
Fairfax, Virginia. Medical scribes gain substantial health care experience
through first-hand exposure to patient care in a fast-paced emergency room
setting.

This is a full-time, paid position targeted at individuals interested in
gaining experience in health care.  If you are able to commit one year to
the program before ultimately attending medical or PA school, we invite you
to apply.  Applications for the 2012-2013 cycle will be available on our
website beginning March 1.

*The Role of the Scribe*

   - Recording patient histories in a web based electronic medical record
   (EMR)
   - Transcribing details of the physical exam and patient orders in the EMR
   - Documenting procedures performed by the physician
   - Ordering lab tests, X-ray/CT/ultrasound imaging, and other patient
   evaluation studies in real time and continually monitoring progress and
   results
   - Recording physician dictated diagnoses, prescriptions, and instructions

*The Experience*

   - Accompany ER physicians to the bedside for the evaluation and
   treatment of acutely ill patients
   - Observe medical resuscitation, including cases of cardiac and
   respiratory arrest
   - Observe ER procedures – lumbar punctures, central lines, chest tubes,
   intubations, etc.
   - *Network* with current physicians and former scribes to gain insight
   into the application process and specific schools / programs
   - Strengthen your application with *letters of recommendation*
   - Prepare for the application process by conducting *mock
interviews*with our physicians
