Subject: Summer undergraduate research opportunity at MSAL Description: The MEMS Sensors and Actuators Laboratory (MSAL) at UMD is seeking undergraduate students in computer science and other relevant science or engineering majors for a research position with our MiND team through Summer 2015. The research will focus on developing signal processing approaches (multivariate statistics, PLSR, neural networks, ...) to integrate signals from arrays of distinct sensors to achieve synergistic selectivity and sensitivity. The position is part of the Microsystems development for Neuropsychiatric Disorders (MiND) project, which is aimed at utilizing micro-system technology, integrating microfluidics as well as biomaterials and chemometrics, towards a real-time portable monitoring device (similar to glucometers) for schizophrenia treatment with the highly effective but currently underutilized drug clozapine. Experience with statistical analysis and MATLAB or similar is required. As an undergraduate researcher in our lab, you will be directly involved in team-based, cross-disciplinary research, and gain valuable hands-on experience. You will be mentored by a principal graduate student and other members of the lab. You will be expected to commit at least ~20 hours/week (full-time preferred) to this position.
