HJF is seeking a Research Assistant II to support the Viral Sequencing Core
(VSC) and the Military HIV Research Program (MHRP) located at the Walter Reed
Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) in Silver Spring, Maryland. HJF provides
scientific, technical and programmatic support services to MHRP.

The incumbent will be responsible for research and/or development in
collaboration with others for projects in support for the Viral Sequencing
Core (VSC). They will also, provide laboratory and technical support to
senior technical and professional staff.

Responsibilities:

Performs laboratory Cloning and cell culture research projects, including
collection and organization of data at a competent and professional level.
Makes detailed observations about experiments.  Provides basic data analysis
and interpretation.
Assists with the preparation of technical reports, summaries, and protocols.
Maintains clear and accurate laboratory records, inventories and logbooks.
Performs data entry for research projects and maintains and curates all of
the cloning and IMC databases.
Maintains compliance with established laboratory safety and other procedures.
Provides leadership in the proper disposal of infectious and hazardous
materials. In 2N26 and2NSO.
Provides quality control, troubleshooting and the maintenance of specialized
reagents and equipment in the Cloning and Cell Culture lab.
Maintains supplies in the laboratory and keeps the laboratory area clean.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of all standard cloning
and cell culture laboratory techniques; ability to follow general
instructions; good communication with VSC team and analytical skills.

Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline.

Minimum Experience: 2 to 4 years of laboratory experience. Further
educations, such as an MS may count towards years of experience.

Physical Capabilities:  Long periods of standing and sitting; handling
various chemicals and biological reagents. Candidate must be able to visually
distinguish all visible colors.

Work Environment: Laboratory environment.

Background: Must have lived in the US 3 out of the past 5 years; eligible to
pass a NACI background.
