The University of Maryland is committed to addressing and proposing solutions
to the grand challenges (https://president.umd.edu/grandchallenges) facing
the world today. The Office of International Affairs, the School of Public
Policy and the Academy for Innovation and Entrepreneurship have teamed up to
launch a new, innovative one-credit course for Spring 2021 that introduces
first-year students to the UN Sustainable Development Goals as a blueprint
for addressing grand challenges to achieve a more equitable and sustainable
future for all.

Through a series of guest lectures featuring the founders of the SDGs and
international practitioners, students will work virtually and collaboratively
on projects with peers from across UMD’s global network using design
thinking methods and the SDGs framework to engage in creative problem-solving
for the improvement of the common good.
