iLS Inc/Carnegie Mellon University

Starting: in January 2007

Ending: December 2007 with possibilities of extension

iLS Inc. has immediate openings for a process control engineer with 2 years
or more industrial experience and a Post Doc with background in chemical or
electrical engineering. The candidates will work in a small engineering team
on design, installation and customization of adaptive and self-optimization
MPC (model predictive controller) in the chemical, petro-chemical, power
generation and water treatment industries. The process engineer will work on
design, implementation and beta testing of a single input single output
adaptive controller with adaptive feedforward. The Post Doc will be working
at Carnegie Mellon University on developing multivariable adaptive
predictive control algorithms.

The successful candidates will have some or most of the following qualities:

* Process control Engineering experience preferably in the Chemical
/Power Generation industries

*      Excellent programming skills (C/C++/Matlab)

* BS/MS/PhD in Chemical, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering

* Willingness to work with customers and travel to client sites (Travel
up to 25%)

* Theoretical and/or practical experience in working with system
identification, predictive and or nonlinear control

* Ability to work in small teams including CMU students and iLS
engineers with diverse backgrounds

* Willingness to work under severe time & resource constraints

About Industrial Learning Systems:

iLS, which is based in Pittsburgh PA, was spun out of Carnegie Mellon in May
2005. We specialize in predictive modeling, process control and real time
process optimization. The technology is based on innovative solutions to
process modeling based on rigorous thermodynamic models, methods for robust
closed loop identification in data rich and information poor environments
and novel methods for large scale optimization developed at Carnegie Mellon
University. These methods have been leveraged to develop innovative process
control and real time optimization solutions which have an ability to reduce
energy and maintenance costs and improve process yield and efficiency.

We have funding from local investors and a major OEM to customize our
products. We have beta sites planned at a major chemical company and in
large scale power plants. The successful applicants will take part in these
developments by working on product development, implementation and design of
a new suite of products suitable for adaptive control and real time
optimization of complex single and multi-product plant complexes.
