The FACS (functional analysis of complex systems; laboratory of Hankyong National University in Korea has an immediate opening for a research fellow (or post-doc, or PhD candidate) to carry out the scientific research projects for two years or more. For PhD candidates, this position will be open from September 1st, 2007. 
Hankyong National University ( is located at the Anseong city about 50 km to the south from Seoul, Korea. The FACS (functional analysis of complex systems) laboratory in Department of chemical engineering focuses on modeling, simulation and optimization of chemical and biological processes.
The research fellow (or post-doc, or PhD candidate) will be hired for initially two years with 30,000 $/year (=25,000$ for salary + 5,000$ for lecture charging) including taxes. The social security is covered for him and his family.

In this position, you will carry out working tasks related to modeling and simulation of chemical processes.

Key accountabilities include:
- Working on Windows-based program development for SMB (simulated moving bed) chromatographic processes. Specially, GUI (graphical user interface) programming using Visual Basic or Visual C++ and developing the code already developed in Fortran for SMB processes.

- Working on CFD (computational fluid dynamics) simulation using Fluent or ComSol of the nitrogen oxides (NOx) removal system in the flue gas (funded from May 2007-April 2009, 2 years). In SCR (selective catalytic reduction) and SNCR (selective non-catalytic reduction) hybrid system for NOx removal, the fluid velocity and temperature are identified by using a CFD code such as Fluent or ComSol. NOx reduction kinetics in the gas phase is modeled and simulated.

- Scoping multi-scale simulation starting at the molecular level of the adsorptive separation and catalytic decomposition  hybrid process for dioxin removal. This task includes modeling of adsorption isotherms (Grand Canonical Monte-Carlo molecular simulation), model parameter estimation (Computational Fluid Dynamics), catalytic decomposition kinetics modeling and the process simulation.

- Collaborating with multidisciplinary technical groups and communication skills in English.

To be considered for this position, the successful candidate will possess a PhD degree (or Master degree) in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field. You must possess background in Process Systems Engineering (PSE) or/and CFD (computational fluid dynamics). You must speak English fluently and you have published several papers in the scientific journals.

Additional skills required:
- Strong self-initiative and technical leadership skills
- Computer programming/development/tools/component skills related to Fortran, C++, VB, MATLAB, etc.
