WEST VIRGINIA UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING AND MINERAL RESOURCES DEPARTMENT OF CHEMICAL ENGINEERING The Department of Chemical Engineering in the College of Engineering and Mineral Resources at West Virginia University invites applications for a post-doctoral fellow to develop dynamic simulation models and control strategies for advanced integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) power plants. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with researchers at the Department of Energy’s National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) in Morgantown. This appointment will be effective January 1, 2008. The successful candidate must hold a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline. In addition, the successful candidate must possess the following qualifications: Demonstrated sound knowledge of Aspen Plus and/or Aspen Dynamics or other similar process simulation software. Understanding of the thermodynamics and kinetics of key unit operations that are the building blocks of advanced, coal- fired energy systems e.g. fluidized bed gasifiers and combustion processes. Understanding and experience in developing and implementing strategies for the control of process plants. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing as demonstrated, for example, by publications in peer- reviewed journals and presentations at technical meetings. Ability to meet deadlines and prepare, present, and report results effectively. Ability to collaborate effectively with co-investigators from WVU and NETL.
