ethanol by the anaerobic bacterium Clostridium phytofermentans. This
interdisciplinary systems biology project is funded by the Department of Energy
through a subcontract from the startup company SunEthanol. Close interactions
with microbiologists, biochemical engineers, and industrial collaborators will
be required. Candidates with a Ph.D. in biology, engineering, or a related
field and the following background are sought: (1) bacterial metabolism; (2)
metabolic modeling; and (3) dynamic simulation and optimization.
The position is available starting September 1, 2008 for
a period of one year. A six to twelve month extension is possible with
satisfactory progress and availability of funds. The stipend and benefits are competitive.
