The APECS R&D Senior Research Engineer will be assigned management and coordination duties in all major phases of the APECS R&D program, including detailed planning, research projects, software development, testing, deployment, documentation, and training, as well as on-going support. The incumbent will also contribute technically to R&D projects in the areas of CAPE-OPEN software interoperability, reduced-order modeling, co-simulation solution strategies and advanced analysis tools, post-processing and visualization, integration with virtual engineering software, distributed and parallel computing, and dynamic simulation. These R&D projects will be conducted under the auspices of the Collaboratory for Process & Dynamic Systems Research (‘Collaboratory’) between NETL, WVU, the
Responsibilities require advanced knowledge of processes and procedures to support duties of the position and demonstrated knowledge of steady-state and dynamic process simulation, CFD, process/CFD co-simulation, and reduced-order modeling. Position will require project lead responsibilities, sharing of knowledge and team participation. The successful candidate will possess a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field and at least 5 years of experience in the development and use of process simulation (e.g., Aspen Plus®) and/or CFD software (e.g., FLUENT®, COMSOL Multiphysics®); or, an equivalent combination of education and experience to fulfill position requirements. A strong working knowledge of the process industry CAPE-OPEN software standard, C++/object-oriented programming, and COM/CORBA middleware technology is also desirable.
