The College of Information Studies, Maryland's iSchool in conjunction 
with Friends of Maryland Libraries is accepting nominations for the 
James Partridge Award. The criteria and deadline date are below. PLEASE 
CONSIDER SOMEONE FROM YOUR STAFF OR SOMEONE YOU KNOW.

*James Partridge Outstanding African American Information Professional 
Award 2009**

Nominations are being solicited from the Maryland library community for 
the 11th Annual recipient of the James Partridge Outstanding African 
American Information Professional Award. The award will be presented at 
the University of Maryland, College Park on Tuesday, February 24, 2009.

*WHO IS ELIGIBLE?**

The award is intended to honor those unsung members of the library 
profession who contribute greatly but who are often behind the sense and 
not publicly recognized for their contributions to librarianship and the 
library community.


A nominee must at the time of nomination, be working in a library, 
information center, archive, library/information science association, 
government agency or research center, or library/information science.


A nominee must have earned a professional degree from an ALA accredited 
program of library/information science.


A nominee must have demonstrated sustained, high quality contribution to 
and dedicated service in support of the mission of libraries to provide 
access to information to any citizen who wishes to read and to learn.

**WHO CAN NOMINATE?**

Any librarian may nominate a colleague. Consent of the nominee must be 
obtained before submitting a name for consideration.

*SELECTION CRITERIA*

The James Partridge Award Committee, appointed by Maryland's iSchool, 
will select the winner of the award based upon the following criteria.

· The nominee must, like James Partridge, exemplify the highest ideals 
of the library/information profession including, career-long dedicated 
service, leadership and commitment to the empowerment of those who they 
serve.

· The nominee must have demonstrated true advocacy for the right of all 
people to read and to learn.

· The nominee, like James Partridge, while deserving of accolades, must 
not have been recognized by his/her peers for his/her contributions to 
librarianship and the community.


*NOMINATION PROCESS*

Please submit a letter of nomination and at least three letters of 
support that include the following:

1. The nominee's name and place of employment

2. Number of years of service as a librarian

3. Documented evidence of the nominee's contributions to his/her library 
and to the library profession.

*CLOSING DATE*

Nominations must be received no later that close of business on Monday, 
February 9, 2009.
