Description:
The Pew Charitable Trusts, an independent nonprofit based
in Philadelphia, PA, is driven by the power of knowledge to solve
today’s most challenging problems. Pew applies a rigorous, analytical
approach to improve public policy, inform the public and stimulate civic
life. Research Services (RS), part of the Planning and Evaluation department,
supports Pew's strategic grantmaking activities by providing targeted
research and information services to Pew staff. Pew is seeking a senior
specialist, Research Librarian for the Washington, DC office. This in
dividual will be a member of the RS unit and will report to the senior
manager, research and records in the Philadelphia office. The successful
applicant will be responsible for conducting customized research on behalf of
Pew’s staff, maintaining and strengthening Pew’s Washington, D.C.
library collection, and providing frontline library support to Pew’s
Washington, D.C. staff.
The ideal candidate must have an ALA-accredited master of library science
degree and five years professional library experience. Also required are the
ability to work independently and well with other professionals in a
collaborative, project-focused environment; good oral and written
communication skills; ability to interview staff regarding research needs and
translate needs into achievable projects; and, the ability to synthesize
information and report back in concise, well-organized reports. Additionally,
he/she will be resourceful and creative; have strong research and analytical
skills; able to find information in a broad range of subject matter; and,
have the ability to cost-effectively search online databases, including
Factiva, Lexis-Nexis, Westlaw, and the Internet.
