Chattahoochee Valley Libraries (Columbus, GA) seeks a creative, dynamic children’s librarian and manager to become the next head of the Columbus Public Library’s Children’s Department. The successful candidate will have in-depth knowledge of child development and literature. A passion for developing and implementing children’s programs and services is a must. The Children’s Department Head is responsible for the organization, management, supervision and effective functioning of the Main Library’s Children’s Department. In addition, the successful candidate oversees children’s services and collections throughout the library system. This person chairs the Children’s Steering Committee, coordinates the selection of children’s materials ($130,000 budget), writes and manages grants, trains, motivates and evaluates Children’s Department staff (5.5FTEs), develops and presents programs to children ages birth to 11 and engages in collaborative outreach programs to promote the library within the community.

Chattahoochee Valley Libraries is a thriving four county library system headquartered in Columbus, GA  approximately two hours outside Atlanta. The system serves a 200,000+ population circulating 1.2 million items last year. The Aflac Children’s Room and new outdoor Children’s Reading Garden provide a beautiful environment for children’s programs and services. The library, in addition to a 125 seat auditorium, has several large meeting rooms. Programs are limited only by your imagination! Minimum requirements include an MLS from an ALA-accredited program and five years of children’s librarian experience with at least two years of management and supervisory experience preferred.

Starting salary range: $45,625-$53,738 with excellent benefits.
