The District of Columbia Library Association is sponsoring an evening discussion with Children's librarians, School Library Media Specialists, and the broader library community on the challenges and opportunities today for providing library services to children.

The event will be held at 6:00 pm on Thursday, January 28, 2010 at the Sumner School Auditorium, 1201 17th Street, NW. Anyone that is either involved or interested in this topis is invited to attend. Registration is free but the event will be limited to the first 60 who register.

Our keynote speaker for this evening will be Miki Freeny. Mrs. Freeny is the Director of Library Services to Children for the DC Public Library. She is also a long-time professor of Children;s Literature at the University of Maryland and former Director of the Prince George's County Public Library in Maryland. Also invited to speak is Pat Brown, the newly appointed Director of Library Media Services at the DC Public Schools.

The goal of this Summit is to bring together librarians and their colleagues from all types of libraries; public libraries, public schools, charter schools, private schools, etc. We hope the discussions begun that evening will create new interest in improving library services to children by working together across organizations.
