New model in ProSimPlus: Solid Oxid Fuel
Cell (SOFC) |
Top |
ProSim, recently integrated a solid oxid fuel cell
(SOFC) model in its steady state process simulator
ProSimPlus. This module establishes accurate mass
and energy balances of the electrochemical cells stack
that constitutes the battery core. The reforming part is
simulated using separate standard reactor module. In
addition to the outlet stream characteristics
(temperature, pressure, flowrate, enthalpy,
composition…), the SOFC module also calculates many
parameters including in particular the consumption rate
of the fuel, the energy efficiency, the real electric
power or the air channel.

Plotting residue curves with Simulis
Thermodynamics |
Top |
Residue curves map are a graphical mean to visualize the
separation possibilities and constraints of azeotropic ternary
systems. Simulis Thermodynamics provides a service for the
calculation and the plotting of this type of curves. A new
document in the "Getting Started With Simulis
Thermodynamics" series is now available. It presents step
by step instructions to spot ternary system azeotropes,
identify stable and unstable nodes as well as saddle points
and to plot distillation frontiers and residue curves.
It is to be noted that this service is also available
in any software in which Simulis Thermodynamics is embedded,
in particular ProPhyPlus 2 and ProSimPlus.

LPG recovery with
ProSimPlus |
Top |
A new ProSimPlus application example is available for
download on the ProSim
web site. It is a process of LPG recovery from a gas
mixture with a propane refrigeration loop. This process
is particularly inter-connected and includes several
recycling loops. Additionally, beside the
implementation of the absorber module (acting as the
deethanizer) and of the refrigeration loop, this process
uses the plate fin heat exchanger module of ProSimPlus,
an advanced unit operation. This type of heat exchangers
can include many different hot or cold streams which
renders the modeling and the associated calculation
particularly complex.

The MEMOBIOL
(Modélisation à l'Echelle MOléculaire pour les
BIOraffineries Lignocellulosiques – Molecular Scale
Modeling for Lignocellulosic Biorefineries) project, led
by IFP (Institut Français du Pétrole), focusing on
molecular modeling applied to lignocellulosic biomass
(wood residues, cereal straw, forestry waste) has been
selected by the ANR (French National Research Agency) as
part of its 2009 "Chemistry and Processes for
Sustainable Development" call for projects. In addition
to IFP, the project brings together six partners from
the academic world (Armines -École des Mines de Paris
CEP/TEP-, ENSTA-ParisTech -École nationale supérieure
des techniques avancées- and LIMHP -Laboratoire
d'ingénierie des matériaux et des hautes pressions-),
and the industry (Materials Design and ProSim).
MEMOBIOL aims to develop new modeling and
calculation technologies capable of reconstructing the
physicochemical behavior of molecules derived from
lignocellulosic biomass. Unlike hydrocarbons, these
molecules belong to a variety of complex oxygen compound
families requiring appropriate modeling tools.

Stéphane Déchelotte, CEO of ProSim, elected
Vice president of SFGP’s IEP Group |
Top |
Stéphane Déchelotte was
elected Vice President of the IEP (IT and Process) group of
SFGP (French Process Engineering Society) during the group
members meeting that took place on January 12, 2010, at
Nancy’s ENSIC University. The chair of the Group is held since
January 1st 2010 by Xuan Mi Meyer, Associate Professor at the
ENSIACET University and researcher at the Laboratoire de Génie
Chimique of Toulouse (France).
The IEP Group is open
to anyone who has interest in IT applications in process
industries. It is not restricted to academics researchers of
this domain or to experts from large industrial companies.
Topics are covered in an understandable way and often bring
practical answers to issues encountered by SMEs or process
engineering companies. If you feel concerned by topics like
process modeling, simulation, optimization or control, feel
free to join the group or to attend one of the forecoming
meetings to know more.

Upcoming training sessions
calendar |
Top |
You wish to strengthen
your competencies in process simulation? Every year, ProSim
organizes several training sessions around its major areas of
expertise. Trainees explore numerous issues and case studies
that allow them to familiarize themselves with chemical
engineering fundamental techniques. The fields covered include
steady-state processes, batch chemical reactors and
distillation columns, optimization of power plants,
utilization and programming with Simulis software components,
etc... Detailed programs and dates the next training
sessions as well as registration forms are available on
ProSim's website: http://www.prosim.net. The number of
participants is limited, therefore we invite you to register
as soon as possible.
We also remind you that these
scheduled training sessions are now part of the new MUTS
(Maintenance, Updates, Training and Support) agreements.
Companies that benefit from such contract can register free of
charge as many employees as they wish (within available seats
for each session) to the scheduled training sessions
associated with the software covered by their agreement. The
same applies to universities and public research centers
within the framework of software license agreement for
teaching or academic research purposes. To check if your
company benefit from these new options, review your agreement
or contact us: [log in to unmask].
