The project goal is to develop innovative process system engineering technology for biomanufacturing. Area of the research is as follows: - Process monitoring and control of biomanufacturing processes - Product transfer and scale-up/down assessment using multivariate statistics and experimental design approach. - Process Analytics technology (PAT) development in raw material screening, media optimization, process characterization, cell-culture and protein purification operation, viral clearance, cell-line selection, disposables. The research project requires expertise in multivariate statistics and advanced control theory, and/or either cell-culture or protein purification research. Applicants with background knowledge of biopharmaceutical processes and/or pharmaceutical processes are encouraged to apply. The research is contributing to the Life Science Initiative of the Commonwealth and can make important contributions to further the development of the Massachusetts Biomanufacturing Center at the University (http://www.uml.edu/centers/biomanufacturing/). This newly created Center supports transition of Massachusetts biotech companies from R&D into manufacturing. The position is available immediately for a period of one year.
