ARCHIVE INTERNSHIP

IMAGE COLLECTIONS & FIELDWORK ARCHIVES, DUMBARTON OAKS
FALL 2010/SPRING 2011

Dumbarton Oaks Research Library and Collection, located in Washington, D.C., is a premier institution of Harvard University, supporting research in Byzantine, Pre-Columbian, and Garden and Landscape Studies. The Image Collections & Fieldwork Archives (ICFA) in Dumbarton Oaks houses one of the most important Byzantine photography collections and fieldwork archives in the world (http://www.doaks.org/library/icfa.html).

DESCRIPTION: The interns will join the curators for one or more semesters in Fall 2010/Spring 2011 to assist with three archival projects:

 

·                                                                                 Update existing inventories and assess collections’ physical condition for preservation purposes

·         Process and update existing finding aid for the Byzantine Institute of America Papers

·         Process and arrange small photographic collections based on archival standards

 

The internship program provides hands-on experience with archival processing of manuscripts and photographic collections.  The interns will also be engaged in the discussion of archival issues and practices.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

COMPENSATION:  Unpaid. Transportation benefits or parking space. Work for credit or practicum can be arranged with the approval of the interns’ advisors. The hours are flexible.
