Candidate will provide design, pre-publication content management, print production management and administrative assistance for the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center’s Publications Office. This is a 20-hour per week position.
The Publications Office at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center is responsible for producing printed and electronic marketing materials for the Center. The primary responsibility of the Publications Assistant is to manage publication production for printed programs, student recital programs and event promotional materials. This includes design using the publishing software InDesign, overseeing content acquisition, print production and logistical coordination of these projects according to firmly established production schedules. The Publication Design Assistant will manage the production and design schedule for the season, and assist the Creative Services Manager with other projects. These projects include designing and overseeing production of various other printed media, including advertisements, posters and flyers; and providing artwork for the Center’s website. Assistant will also help with general office organization and administrative duties, including but not limited to image archiving and ordering supplies.
A demonstrated ability for design and proficiency with Adobe InDesign or Quark is mandatory. Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Powerpoint), Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator experience required. Knowledge of HTML and Dreamweaver a definite plus. Applicants without these technical qualifications and a portfolio of graphic design work need not apply. Portfolio review is part of the interview process; candidates with strong design skills are given priority consideration.
The ability to meet deadlines and multi-task; strong organizational, project management skills and a good eye for detail, are all required qualifications.
Terms of Employment:
Services may be required during the entire period of your appointment, with the exception of the following University holidays: Labor Day; Thanksgiving Day; Thanksgiving break; Christmas break week; New Year’s Day; Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday; spring break, and Memorial Day.
Duties will require a weekly time commitment of 20 hours per week. The Graduate Assistant’s schedule will be based on academic responsibilities and the workflow needs of the Publications Office, and will be negotiated at the beginning of the semester.
Benefits of this appointment include remission of 10 credits of tuition and participation in the Employees’ Health Insurance program. 9-1/2 month Graduate Assistants follow the University payroll schedule for permanent employees. You will be paid in equal payments, received biweekly over the term of your contract.
