Staff in the Special Collections are currently searching for a graduate student from the iSchool's MLS program to work with staff in the Maryland Room, in Hornbake Library. The Maryland Room houses several of the campus’ Special Collections including the Marylandia, Rare Books and National Trust for Historic Preservation collections. The main duties of the students employed here are to retrieve materials for the researchers and to help these individuals to figure out what they need. Student assistants will always be assisted by a Reference Librarian while stationed at this desk. Another important duty is to serve on the Welcome Desk, where student assistants may be required to answer directional questions and help researchers prepare to enter the Maryland Room. Other responsibilities include daily library tasks, such as shelving, checking in books and mail, maintaining orderliness in the stacks, and helping staff members with special, short-term projects. We have shorter hours than most other libraries on campus. Our regular hours are Monday through Friday, 10am – 5pm. During the fall and spring semester, we offer extended hours on Wednesday evenings until 8pm and Sundays from 1pm - 6pm. If you are interested in interviewing for the available position here in the Maryland Room and feel you have availability during our hours of operation, please call or email me as soon as possible. Please include with your email a copy of your resume, your expected availability for the spring semester and the total number of hours you wish to work. Feel free to contact me directly with any questions about this job posting. We are looking to hire someone to begin in mid-December or early January, and continue through the Spring semeter.
