University of Maryland Libraries Vacancy Announcement Graduate Assistant Cataloger (Technical Services) The Metadata Services Department is seeking applicants for a student assistant position. This position will work under the supervision of the Special Collections Cataloger/Coordinator performing cataloging of University of Maryland publications located in the University Archives in Hornbake Library. Duties include: • Assigning access points in catalog records using Library of Congress name and subject authorities • Describing University of Maryland publications using the Anglo-American Cataloging Rules • Creating catalog records in the MARC format using the OCLC Connexion software • Adding catalog records to the Aleph library catalog to include item and holding records Applicants should be familiar with cataloging procedures and standards; have computer skills; an ability to work accurately over a sustained period of time; and have good teamwork skills. In order to qualify for this position, applicants must be registered as a graduate student. Work schedules will be determined to accommodate the student's class schedule and the Library's work requirements. A typical schedule is 10-20 hours per week while classes are in session; full-time employment is available during semester and summer breaks.
