Job Description:

 

Athens Technical College in Athens, GA seeks a Distance Education and Outreach Librarian.

Responsibilities of this position for a creative and outgoing individual reporting to the Director, will be to identify, create and implement an emerging information technology strategy to support the mission of the college and library; to promote the integration of library services with regards to distance education and face-to-face instruction. Individual will oversee library services at the three branch libraries on the satellite campuses including providing reference and circulation services and supervising student assistants on the Elberton campus, and coordinating library services with the half-time person on the Walton and Greene County campuses.  Establish a virtual presence for all ATC students, working with faculty on all campuses to implement library and curriculum specific resources to engage the college community and achieve learning outcomes. The Distance Education and Outreach Librarian will promote the library on all campuses and facilitate cross-departmental and cross-campuses communications. This person will collaborate with the Director of Online Learning  and Vice President for Information Technology to further develop and implement web based resources and services, and integrate relevant existing systems;  This librarian will work Fridays and in the Saturday schedule rotation on the Athens campus;  and is expected to teach information literacy classes on the satellite campuses and Athens campus as needed, and to help provide reference services and circulation services on Athens campus when scheduled there.  

 

Skills/Requirements:

Master's degree accredited by the American Library Association; broad experience in using and managing a variety of emerging technologies to promote library services.

Preferred Qualifications:
  ·  knowledge of emerging information technologies, and demonstrated use of web-authoring tools and social networking software in library environment;
·  understanding of the application of technology as it relates to teaching and learning as well as distance learning;
·  effective teaching skills including proven abilities in designing and delivering discipline-related instructional sessions;
·  self-motivation; flexibility; strong problem-solving, organizational, interpersonal, and written and oral communication skills;
·  initiative and ability to conceive and carry out projects on a deadline including the ability to manage multiple responsibilities and effectively respond to the needs of a multi campus community that makes heavy demands on library services;
·  ability to work in a collaborative team environment with other library staff, both professional and support staff.
·  ability to assist with development of the library website; identify and analyze user requirements for systems and services.
