Hi, I'm a recent alum and there's a possible field study/internship opportunity at Georgetown Day School, a private high school in Washington, D.C. I think this opportunity could strongly appeal to HILS students, School Library/Media students or students interested in gaining significant information access and reference skills.
Internship Description:
- Gain hands-on experience teaching 1 section (17 9th graders) of a designated Global Studies Course (syllabus, lesson plans and mentorship provided)
- Learn the inner workings of an active high school library; dealing with ready reference questions from 9-12 graders, circulation, cataloging and special events
- Opportunity to collaborate with Head Librarian to plan reference and instruction for high school history research and paper-writing
- Gain additional experience working with online databases and resources for 9-12 grade level, such as Facts on File, ProQuest, ABC-CLIO, Project Muse, JSTOR, etc.
- can be used to potentially fulfill field study requirements or an independent study, such as LBSC707 or LBSC709.
- Willing to work with any additional academic/classroom requirements to make this practicum a productive one.
Requirements of Candidate:
- Bachelor's Degree in the humanities or social sciences (history or education preferred)
- some teaching or mentoring experience (strongly preferred)
- Pursuing MLS or MA in History (interest in Asia, Africa, the Middle East or South/Latin America preferred)
- Must be available Monday, Tuesday and Thursday mornings between 8:30am-12:30pm; additional hours flexible (adding up to the field study requirement)
- internship starts early December through at least the end of February; possibility til end of spring 2011 semester possible
