Subject: Distance Education/Information Literacy Librarian Position - Baltimore, MD

The Loyola ▪ Notre Dame Library in Baltimore, Maryland seeks an Information Literacy / Distance Education Librarian for Fall 2011.

The Information Literacy / Distance Education Librarian provides coordination, planning, and promotion of the library’s existing information literacy instruction program and provides distance education services online and in person to off-campus graduate centers. Under the supervision of the Head of Research and Instruction, this librarian has responsibility for collaborating with other instruction librarians, designing library instruction curricula to enhance lesson plans. The librarian is also responsible for assessing and analyzing present and alternative models of information literacy instruction. Applicant must be willing and able to travel to off-campus locations.

The librarian will participate in reference service and weekend rotation, serve as liaison to a number of academic disciplines, provide information literacy instruction, and monitor collection development in liaison areas.

Reports to: Head of Research & Instruction Services

Education:      MLS from ALA-accredited program required, prior teaching experience a plus.

Experience and Qualifications: 2-3 years professional experience in academic library instruction or other teaching strongly preferred. Eagerness to learn and embrace new technologies, including Web 2.0. Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Familiarity with ACRL Information Literacy Standards. Ability and willingness to work in a collaborative team environment. Availability to work evenings and weekends.

The Loyola ▪ Notre Dame Library provides library and information services to Loyola University Maryland and the soon to be “Notre Dame of Maryland University” with over 7,500 students and 500 faculty engaged in a range of  bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs. The Library functions as an independent organization with 32 full-time staff, including 15 professional librarians, and has been a leader in developing digital resources among comprehensive level institutions. Located in an attractive residential area of Baltimore, the Library has recently completed a $20 million building addition/renovation project to provide leading-edge facilities and services to our faculty and students.
