One more reminder to our friends of the iSchool and the Libraries -

It's that time of year again to prepare for the upcoming Race for the Cure in Washington DC! As we have done for several years, we would like to have a joint team of runners and walkers from Maryland's iSchool, Libraries, alumni, and friends. The team will meet on the National Mall on Saturday, June 4 to celebrate the impact we can make in the fight against breast cancer. It is always inspiring and fun, and doing it together makes it extra special!

Two years ago our team was the top fundraiser in the Academic Teams category, raising nearly $4000. During the event it was exciting to hear UM Libraries/iSchool team named over the loudspeakers as one of the top fundraisers. Let's see how well we can do this year.

The annual 5K race, sponsored by the Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization, raises funds for breast cancer screening, treatment, and education programs, particularly for the medically underserved. Once you have registered and paid your $40 fee ($5 discount if you register on or before April 15-that's tomorrow!), tell your friends and family about this worthy cause and ask them to donate as well. Directions for how to do this efficiently are provided below.

There are a number of ways you can participate. We will have a group of walkers and a group of runners. If you would rather not walk or run, you can also choose to participate on our team as a volunteer, helping with check-in and other race activities. Even if you will be out of town on June 4 or are not a morning person, you can join the team by registering as a Sleep in the for Cure participant. If you would like to have your children who are 12 and under participate, you can register them as Kid for the Cure participants.

To join the team of UM Libraries employees and iSchool faculty and students, iSchool alumni and their friends and families:

1. Go to http://www.globalraceforthecure.org and click on the "Register Now" box on the right side of the page.

2. Click on Join a Team. Our team name is "Maryland iSchool/Libraries" and is in the Academic category. Beatriz Collazo, Kat Cook and Trudi Hahn are the co-captains of the team.

3. Follow the instructions to finish registering.

If you would like to donate to the team, click on the DONATE link in the pink bar at the top of the page and search for the Maryland Libraries/iSchool Team. More information about the race is at http://www.globalraceforthecure.org. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>, [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>, or [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>).

When we know who will be on our team, we'll make arrangements to meet before the race for a group photo and race prep and to start off the race together.

Thanks and we hope you can join us!

Beatriz Collazo (MLS expected 12/2011), Kat Cook (MLS May 2010), and Trudi Hahn, iSchool faculty
