Dear Colleagues,
This is a CALL FOR PAPERS for an Invited Session on "Life Extending Control of Electrochemical Energy Systems" to be proposed at the 2012 American Control Conference, June 27-29, Montreal, Canada.
Electrochemical energy systems such as batteries and fuel cells are becoming increasingly critical in modern high efficiency, high performance solutions for transportation and stationary energy needs. Examples include electric and hybrid vehicles, distributed power systems and smart grids with integrated renewables and energy storage. There have been (and continue to be) substantial and excellent research contributions from the dynamical systems and controls community over the years addressing optimized design and energy management aspects of such systems. The longer term durability of electrochemical energy systems under real-world operation is not well-understood and presents a significant barrier for increased commercial acceptance.
The goal of this invited session is to address opportunities and challenges specifically in the areas of understanding the fundamentals and improving the long term durability of electrochemical energy systems using control-oriented techniques. The session is intended to complement other sessions where the focus may be on optimizing system design and energy management strategies for transient performance.
