Librarians’ Workshop on the NEH Bridging Cultures Bookshelf/Muslim Journeys at George Mason University’s Fall for the Book festival

You are cordially invited to attend a special workshop for professional librarians at George Mason University, hosted by the Ali Vural Ak Center for Global Islamic Studies. The workshop introduces the Bridging Cultures Bookshelf/Muslim Journeys [log in to unmask]"> (www.programminglibrarian.org/muslimjourneys) project of the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Library Association to provide a set of 25 books to one thousand libraries with the goal of holding public programs around the books.
The workshop will introduce the project and provide a preview of its companion website. There will be interactive sessions with project scholars and fellow librarians. First, Kambiz GhaneaBassiri, author of A History of Islam in America and NEH National Scholar for the project, will present books and multimedia resources from the “American Stories” project theme. Peter Mandaville, author of Global Political Islam and Director of the Ali Vural Ak Center, will use the books and resources to shed light on contemporary events in the Arab world and South Asia. Librarians will find out more about the NEH/ALA project, how to apply for a set of the books for their libraries, and will work with their colleagues to generate ideas for engaging their publics with the Muslim Journeys Bookshelf.
