Graduate Student Internship Opportunities in Advanced Process Control and Optimization

ExxonMobil Chemical Company is searching for engineering graduate students pursuing a Ph.D. in the area of advanced process control and optimization for an internship experience. The target start date is Summer 2013. The work location is the Baytown Engineering Complex near Houston, TX.

Engineers in the Process Control Applications section contribute to the design, implementation, and sustainment of the advanced automation systems that enable processes to run safely, cleanly, and more profitably at ExxonMobil Chemical Company plants worldwide.

Our engineers design innovative solutions to complex control and optimization problems, and implement these solutions in practice. Additionally, we develop new tools to help control room operators and engineers better operate the manufacturing facilities. Our current interests are in model-based state and parameter estimation, distributed model predictive control and optimization, optimization of multi-scale systems, and integration of operations and control for large scale, increasingly autonomous manufacturing systems.

During this research focused internship, the student will gain exposure to the real-life challenges involved with designing innovative advanced control solutions for large, complex chemical processes. The business impact of technology solutions will be emphasized. Preference will be given to candidates whose graduate research is aligned with ExxonMobil Chemical Company's R&D programs and are relatively early in their research program.

In addition to a strong technical background in advanced process control and optimization and demonstrated high levels of academic achievement, successful candidates will possess solid research capabilities, innovative thinking, strong initiative, and good communication skills.

This search is open until 14 December 2012. Interested candidates should apply by sending a resume to [log in to unmask]
