Hershey-Derry Township Historical Society and the Milton Hershey School Department of School History are offering a spring internship opportunity that will provide students with experience cataloging oral history interviews and utilizing a variety of archival database software. Two internships are available. Both organizations will each host one intern, who will focus on that organization’s oral history collection.

Three historical organizations: Hershey-Derry Township Historical Society; the Milton Hershey School Department of School History; and Hershey Community Archives are collaborating on the creation of a Hershey Oral History Database utilizing Archon software [www.archon.org]. The internship will involve cataloging oral history interviews in PastPerfect, standardizing nomenclature across the organizations, and inputting data into the shared Archon database. The successful candidate should have strong writing, critical thinking, and research skills. Attention to detail and the ability to work cohesively in a small work environment are important.

The internship is ideal for individuals located in Central Pennsylvania and currently enrolled in an iSchool. All internships are unpaid. Students are encouraged, although not required, to seek academic credit for their internships. Documentation needed by the student’s school to attest to the successful completion of the internship will be provided. Interns are expected to commit approximately 130 hours, the total per week is negotiable.
