The Digitization Center within the Digital Conversion and Media Reformatting Unit at the University of Maryland Libraries is seeking up to two motivated individuals to work 12-20 hours/week through the 2013 academic year (with the potential for continuation as funding allows) as a Digitization Student Assistant. The position will work with materials from across the UMD Libraries.

 

Working in consultation with the appropriate curators, librarians, and staff, and with the Digital Reformatting Specialist and the Manager of Digital Conversion and Media Reformatting, this individual will operate sophisticated digitization equipment to fulfill textual, image, and audiovisual requests, complete and augment metadata records, and perform quality control on digital objects.

 

Experience with special collections materials such as archives, rare books, photographs, maps, and legacy audiovisual formats is highly desirable. Candidates who demonstrate experience with digitization techniques, understanding of cataloging and metadata standards, and comfort and familiarity with graphics software, such as Adobe Photoshop, will be given preference.

 

Hourly pay rate $8.50/hour-$10.00/hour depending on experience. This is an hourly position only. There are no health, tuition, retirement, or vacation benefits. Applicants must be enrolled at the College Park campus.
