In the colloidal assembly process discussed here\, the g oal is to drive a collection of micron-sized particles into a highly order ed crystalline structure\, for application to optoelectronics. The proces s is monitored in real-time using optical microscopy\, with particle posit ions fed back to a controller that adjusts the voltage. The voltage influ ences all particles in a position-dependent manner\, creating an underactu ated control system. We developed stochastic models for the process and u sed a Markov decision based dynamic programming method to construct the op timal control policy. Both simulation and experimental studies will be di scussed.\n\nBio: Martha Grover is an Associate Professor in the School of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering at Georgia Tech. She earned her BS fr om the University of Illinois\, Urbana-Champaign\, and her MS and PhD from Caltech. She joined Georgia Tech as an Assistant Professor in 2002\, and received an NSF CAREER award in 2004. In 2011 she received the Outstandi ng Young Researcher Award from the Computing and Systems Technology Divisi on of AIChE. Her research program is dedicated to understanding\, modelin g\, and engineering the self-assembly of atoms and small molecules to crea te larger scale structures and complex functionality. Her approach draws on process systems engineering\, combining modeling and experiments in app lications dominated by kinetics\, including surface deposition\, crystal g rowth\, polymer reaction engineering\, and colloidal assembly.\n\nJoin the WebEx meeting from here:\nhttps://meetings.webex.com/collabs/meetings/joi n?uuid=M10CMN75ACBW9KHDWJM3QYNUN1-18BV\nMeeting number: 197 583 823\nAudio Connection: +1-415-655-0001\nAccess code: 197 583 823\n\nUpcoming Session s:\n\nhttp://apmonitor.com/wiki/index.php/Main/ApplicationWebinars\n\nJeff Kelly\nIndustrial Flowsheet Optimization and Estimation using IMPL (Indus trial Modeling & Programming Language)\nFeb 18\, 2014\n11 AM Eastern\nIndu strial Algorithms\n\nMartin Schlueter\nGlobal Optimization of MINLP by Evo lutionary Algorithms\nFeb 25\, 2014\n5 PM Eastern\nHokkaido University\, J apan (MIDACO)\n\nCarl Laird\nParallel Optimization\nMar 4\, 2014\n11 AM Ea stern\nTexas A&M\n\nJeff Renfro\nProgress and Challenges in Equation Orien ted Dynamic Modeling\nMar 18\, 2014\n11 AM Eastern\nHoneywell Process Solu tions\n\nAnshul Agarwal\nJohn Wassick\nSupply Chain Optimization in Dow Ch emical\nMar 25\, 2014\n11 AM Eastern\nDow Chemical\n\nKrystian Perez\nRedu ced Order Modeling of Residential Buildings from Smart Meter Data\nApr 15\ , 2014\n11 AM Eastern\nUniversity of Texas at Austin\n\n3 Minute Speed Net working\nApr 22\, 2014\n11 AM Eastern\nSign up here:\nhttps://docs.google .com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AiFb4B-lVvk-dHNHQXEyaHk0Zk9LNFI3aklxZ1o1YWc&usp= sharing\n\nAli Cinar\nControl of Artificial Pancreas Systems\nSept 16\, 20 14\n11 AM Eastern\nIllinois Institute of Technology\n\nPieter Schmal\nDyna mic Modeling and Optimization Advances with gPROMS\nOct 14\, 2014\n11 AM E astern\nPSE\n\n\n\n SUMMARY;LANGUAGE=en-US:CAST Webinar: Feedback Control of Stochastic Self-As sembly\, Martha Grover\, Georgia Institute of Technology DTSTART;TZID=Mountain Standard Time:20140211T090000 DTEND;TZID=Mountain Standard Time:20140211T100000 UID:040000008200E00074C5B7101A82E0080000000020790DC34D22CF01000000000000000 010000000BC2A3F63DBD3884E8F5CCC4ED8330C1A CLASS:PUBLIC PRIORITY:5 DTSTAMP:20140205T155150Z TRANSP:OPAQUE STATUS:CONFIRMED SEQUENCE:0 LOCATION;LANGUAGE=en-US:WebEx X-MICROSOFT-CDO-APPT-SEQUENCE:0 X-MICROSOFT-CDO-OWNERAPPTID:-1033558050 X-MICROSOFT-CDO-BUSYSTATUS:TENTATIVE X-MICROSOFT-CDO-INTENDEDSTATUS:BUSY X-MICROSOFT-CDO-ALLDAYEVENT:FALSE X-MICROSOFT-CDO-IMPORTANCE:1 X-MICROSOFT-CDO-INSTTYPE:0 X-MICROSOFT-DISALLOW-COUNTER:FALSE END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
