Every year the Student Archivists at Maryland (SAM) host Americana, an annual symposium that brings archives professionals back to campus to speak to UMD iSchool students, alumni, and faculty about their experiences in the field. This year our event will be held on MondayFebruary 24th from 6-8:30 pm. Please RSVP here:
http://americana2014.eventbrite.com/

The theme of our event this year is "Archiving Culture in Underrepresented Communities" and will feature 2-3 speakers, as well as an Q&A session. The aim of this year’s event is to focus on the movement towards documenting the culture of underrepresented communities, as this can often be a complex endeavor. Our panelists this year include Michael Pahn, interim head archivist at the National Museum of the American Indian’s Archive Center, and Jennifer Morris, archivist at the Anacostia Community Museum. We anticipate that this will be an exciting and substantive celebration of archives at the University of Maryland's iSchool. Additionally, we will be presenting
the Distinguished Archives Alumni Award to Dr. Joni Jones, the Executive Director of the Maryland Commission on African American History and Culture.

We hope to see you there!
Steve, Erin, Heather, Alan and Melissa

A note about parking:
Because of the UMD Men's basketball game the same evening parking on campus will be restricted, and some entrances to campus may have heavy traffic.
